As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-21 NLT
This is a demonstration of a miracle, a supernatural event. It is miraculous that a virgin woman, Mary, was able to conceive by way of the Holy Spirit. She gave birth to her child, a son, who was to be named Jesus and His purpose would be to save His people from their sins.
This is what the angel declared to Joseph and it happened just as the angel stated.
Thank God for His angels, God’s messengers, and thank God for His word, power, and purposes.
Let’s dig a little deeper into Jesus and His purpose for entering this world.
What does Jesus mean? Jesus means, savior, deliver, Jehovah is salvation. Jesus entered this world to save us from our sins and this includes you. He entered this world to save you from your sins.
It doesn’t matter how nice of a person you are, how much you give to others, how great you treat others, how much you give back to the community and charities, how great of a heart you have, how good of a reputation you have, how many people like you and look up to you, that you go to church every Sunday, listen to praise and worship music sometimes…none of that protects you from the penalty of sin. Some people don’t believe that there is a penalty for sin. That God is a God of love and He wouldn’t punish us. But that’s not what the Bible says. Yes, God is a God of love, but He’s also a God of righteousness and justice and if you are living in a way that is contrary to His word there are consequences.
Ask yourself, if there was no penalty for sin then why would Jesus need to enter this world to save us from our sins? The truth is that He is the only one that can save us. No matter what you try to do, you can not save yourself from your sins or the consequences of your sins. Only Jesus can do that if you accept Him as your Savior, the Deliverer of sin, then He will save you from the power and penalty of sin and give you the gift of eternal life.
The Bible tells us that:
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NLT
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10 NLT
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 NLT
There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 NLT
Now ask yourself: Is Jesus truly your Savior? If so, thank Him for paying the ultimate price on the cross for your sins. If not, today is the perfect day. Confess your sins, repent/turn from your sins, openly declare that Jesus is Lord, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and make a decision to follow Christ. With you decision, all of heaven is rejoicing! Welcome to the family of Christ!
Jesus continued, “In the same way, there will be a glorious celebration in heaven over the rescue of one lost sinner who repents, comes back home, and returns to the fold—more so than for all the righteous people who never strayed away. Luke 15:7 TPT
Now, will you sin as a believer, yes, but as a believer you have a Savior that will forgive you if you confess and will help you to become more like Him.
